Dachshund Diaries – Entry #3 Alfie’s Adventure: “The Bark Heard Round the Block”

November 13, 2025Craig Harrison

Dear Diary,
The postman came again today. I barked bravely to defend our home. Dad said, “Alfie, it’s okay,” but I could see the danger. The man touched the gate! Louie joined in, Frank supervised, and together we made sure he left unharmed. Dad gave us treats anyway—probably to thank us for saving him.

Lesson for today’s humans: Dachshunds bark because they care. We’re alert, protective, and sometimes overly dramatic. Instead of scolding, teach a “quiet” cue and reward calm behavior. Give us a job—like ringing a bell or going to a mat—so we still feel in charge. We just want to keep our people safe… even from mailmen.
